Byron Darnell Rogers
I was Born and raised in St. Louis Mo, and I Grew up in the Jeff Vander Lou Apartments. I attended Columbia, Dundar School, St. Peter Claver, and Parkway South Sr. High School. After graduating high school continued my education at Webster University received B.A. in Art History, and Fontbonne College were I received M.A. in Art studies concentration in Print-Making. I am also a graduate of The Regional Arts Commission's esteemed Community Arts Training (C.A.T.) program.
I am currently the head Art Teacher at Cardinal Ritter College Preparatory high school. Professionally I have taught art at Alabama State University, St. Louis Public Schools, St. Louis Art Museum, Art Works, Bishop Healy School, and the Neighborhood House.
I have four kids Bailee 2, Jada 7, Teri 10, Byron II 12, and my wife is Vickie Denise Holliday-Rogers.
My work is inspired by my life and experiences growing up in low-income housing. My home was a strong part of my development during this stage. My mother, being spiritually driven, instilled the knowledge and practices of keeping Jesus first in all that I do. She empowered us to believe that we have control over our lives, and she always reminded us be proud of who we are as God's children. She always pushed me to produce the best, and to strive for greatness.
I believe my art reflects various facets of my life. I absorb diverse styles and techniques to produce a varied range of artwork. I am forever searching for new material to synthesize. I am inspired by the day-to-day life of my family and people, and I often incorporate this into my art.
I like to think that my work encourages people to reminisce, feel joy or pain, to search who they are and what they believe. I practice ministry through my work by bringing a truth or a knowledge from the innermost part of my soul to convey the realty of life.
My work is inspired by and dedicated to God. Without his inspiration, I cannot create. That's why I say God is the first artist and I'm his creation.
All work is dedicated to God, My Aunt Dorothy, who introduced me to the Museum and puzzles. She showed me that from every small piece you can create a whole Picture. She also taught me the meaning of community, sharing, love, and friendship. I thank my Dad for taking every picture I drew to show it to friends and church member everywhere. I still look up to my brothers, Andre and Poncho (Charles), for encouragement, patience, and being great male role models for me. My heart goes out to my kids, for teaching me perseverance. I am forever grateful to my wife, for her love, support, encouragement, thoughtfulness, and stability. I thank my students at Cardinal Ritter Prep. Last, but not least, I owe my deepest respects and gratitude to my friend, critic, cheerleader, and the foundation of our family "The ROCK", my mother, Blanche Louise Rogers.
